Berk's Breakdown: Eldridge Massington

IrishEyes.com recruiting analyst Dave Berk gives a quick breakdown on wide receiver Eldridge Massington of Mesquite, Texas. Massington added Notre Dame to his growing offer list this week.

Prospect: Eldridge Massington
Position: Wide Receiver
Height/Weight: 6-foot-3 | 205-pounds
High School: Mesquite (TX) West HS

Offers To Date: Notre Dame, Baylor, Colorado, Connecticut, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Oregon State, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Virginia, Wake Forest, Washington State, West Virginia.

Strengths

Great physical size with above average speed makes Massington a top target for Brian Kelly's offensive attack. There is nothing fancy about the way Massington plays the game. He uses his speed to stretch the field and his body to cause major match-up issues with defensive backs. He owns the end zone with his ability to go up and catch the ball at its highest point against shorter defensive backs.

Weakness

One thing Massington has the physical size to do and must do in the Irish offense is be willing to block. While on film he shows these abilities he must continue working to master this key skill needed in the Irish offense.

Overall

Irish fans who take the time to watch Massington's film will see a player with the size and possible skill set of former Irish standout Michael Floyd. One reason for the Texas native to have heavy interest in the Irish is he can see himself as being the next Floyd at Notre Dame.

Early Thoughts

At this time Massington list his Irish offer as the biggest on his list. This will be tested as programs like Texas, LSU and Oklahoma are starting to zero in on this talented prospect. Those who have spoken with Massington speak about his high character and the importance he's placed on academics. If this stays true the Irish should find themselves in this recruiting battle until a decision is made.
