IE Quick Take: Devin Butler

Notre Dame added another quality defensive back to its list of committed players as Devin Butler pledged to the Irish. recruiting analyst Dave Berk gives his initial take on the newest member of the 2013 class.

Notre Dame added a second cornerback to the 2013 recruiting class with the pledge of Washington, D.C. standout Devin Butler.

Here is a quick look at the 6-foot-1, 180-pound defender.

On film Butler shows the ability to play on both sides of the football as he's quick and explosive. Projected to be a corner for the Irish, Butler shows the ability to cover a lot of ground and the speed and agility needed to close on the ball and receiver.

While Butler looks to have an understanding about his future at Notre Dame it will not stop others from coming after him in the coming months. As Irish fans learned last season, until pen has been put to paper there is no end to the recruitment of a high level prospect, and Butler is sure to continue receiving interest.

Butler projects to have all the skills the Irish need from a top level defensive back. Built with a solid frame that will allow for added weight without losing speed, his future as a shutdown defensive back that can provide press coverage is something the Irish desperately needed in the class.

One area that really stands out is Butler's ability to play the ball in the air like a receiver, make a catch and then return the pick for a big play. Top Stories
