Irish have eyes on Wilkerson

Though yet to offer, Notre Dame has been in contact with cornerback prospect Reggie Wilkerson. What have the Irish told the Florida native about their interest? We get the latest from Wilkerson.

Notre Dame continues to head to the Sunshine State as they scan the country for players to fill the 2013 recruiting class.

The latest player to hear from the Irish is Citra (FL) North Marion corner Reggie Wilkerson. What has the 5-foot-11, 170-pound Wilkerson been hearing from the Irish?

"I'm talking with Coach (Scott) Booker," said Wilkerson. "We've only talked one time but I can tell he's a really nice guy. They've not offered yet, but said they will soon.

"He told me I could come there and play any position but they are recruiting me as a corner. I like playing defense because I like to hit people."

While open to leaving the state, Wilkerson admits to not knowing much about the Irish.

"I don't know much really about Notre Dame," said Wilkerson. "So I'll have to get on the Internet and do some research. But I need to do this with several schools that have offered me.

"I don't have a problem leaving the state really; I just want to go where I fit in and have a good connection with the coaches and players while getting a good education. Playing time is a little bit of a factor as I feel I can go just about anywhere and compete for a starting job."

Could the Irish expect to see Wilkerson on a campus visit soon?

"I'm going to have to speak with my parents about coming up for a visit," he said. "I hope to be able to come up sometime this summer but I'm not sure yet." Top Stories
