IE Quick Take: Greer Martini

Notre Dame picked up their first pledge in the 2014 recruiting class in linebacker Greer Martini. recruiting analyst Dave Berk gives his initial take on Martini.

With an extremely early verbal pledge, Woodberry Forest (VA) linebacker Greer Martini gives Notre Dame its first member of the 2014 recruiting class and another inside linebacker prospect to fill the future void coming to the position.

Here is a quick look at the 6-foot-3, 215-pound defender.

With a reported height of 6-foot-3, Martini continues a trend with the Irish taking long framed athletes that can be moved around. Projected as a inside linebacker, Martini shows on film the ability to drop into coverage and make a play or come up and support the run.

The biggest concern in Martini is taking his pledge at such an early stage in the recruiting process. While the recruiting game continues to speed up, there is a risk in judging a player who still has two years of high school ahead of him. However, Martini camped with the Irish to earn his offer and that should ease many fears.

Martini looks to be a player with enough ability to earn a national ranking in the months ahead. Physically there is a lot to like about Martini and he should continue his growth, adding weight and strength before he steps on campus. If signed, Martini will fill a position of need as the Irish look ahead at their future inside linebackers. Top Stories
