Does Andino Want to Follow His Former Teammate?

Eric Andino, the 6'4 225lb linebacker from Buffalo Grove Illinois is starting to get attention from big time schools across the mid-west. As a junior he had 120 tackles and five interceptions in 2002 and expects a better year in 2003. Are the Irish in the picture?

Last year, Notre Dame coaches went to Buffalo Grove HS (Illinois) and landed Tom Zbikowski, the lightning fast athlete who will be a freshmen this year for the Irish. This year, the Irish are recruiting his former teammate, and one of Illinois top linebackers, Eric Andino. How hard are the Irish recruiting Andino?

"I get letters from Notre Dame a lot, but I haven't been to the coaching staff" Andino said. I wanted to go to the Notre Dame camp, but I wasn't able to go. Hopefully I'll hear from the coaches soon because I am really interested in Notre Dame" he continued.

Besides being interested in Notre Dame, what other schools is he looking at? "I'm interested in the schools that have offered me" Andino said. "Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern, Indiana, Kansas, and Boston College have all offered so I am interested in them. But Notre Dame and Ohio State are still on my list too."

Besides being a sure tackler on the field, Andino tackles the books as well. He has a 3.5 GPA but has yet to take the test.

When asked how it was to play with his former teammate, and soon to be Irish freshmen Tom Zbikowski he said "Tom was a great guy. We are really good friends. He lives about 2 blocks down from me. We're gonna miss him on the field this year because he was our leader. We always turned to him when things got rough. Out team won't be the same without him this year." So who's the team going to turn to now? "I'm happy to take on that responsibility" said Andino.

Comments: Don't expect Andino to make a decision anytime soon. He said he will decide close to, or on NLOI day in February. If Notre Dame decides to offer, expect them to be on the top of his list. I think he would love join Zbikowski in the Blue and Gold. Top Stories
