Irish On Point With Byrne

Notre Dame may be finished with offensive line recruiting in 2013 class, but they are keeping on point for one 2014 lineman.

With four early offers including Ohio State, West Virginia, and Notre Dame, Cleveland (OH) St. Ignatius offensive lineman Jimmy Byrne has Notre Dame high on his list.

"I've talked with (assistant) coach (Harry) Hiestand at Notre Dame and I'm going to try and visit for the Michigan game this season," said Byrne. "My family plans on being down there so that is where we're at right now."

Byrne spent two days on campus in South Bend and has since had time to reflect about his time with the Irish.

"The big thing for me was coach Hiestand," said Byrne. "He was very welcoming and they have a really good program. Obviously, academics are a huge thing for me. But coach Hiestand from the day that I met him, I was really impressed with him.

"He's one of those guys I could see myself playing for the next four or five years. Especially with him being the offensive line coach and my main recruiting coach. I feel I could learn a lot from him if I went there."

While Byrne is in no hurry, he's putting together a plan for making his college decision.

"I think right after the season is over I'll start really looking forward," said Byrne. "I don't know when I'm going to make my decision as it could be right after the season or in the spring or summer. When it feels right I'll know. I really want to try and get back to Notre Dame, Michigan and Ohio State for their spring games. Then I can kind of look over everything and make my decision." Top Stories
