The 6-foot-210-pound James is considered a power back with speed and the Irish have been keeping an eye on the former Arkansas commit for some time.
"It all started with Notre Dame during my spring football season last year," said James. "They came to my spring football practice and have been on me ever since. They offered me during the spring time."
After talking with several members of the Irish recruiting class, James gave his pledge despite never setting foot in South Bend."
"I've never been to Notre Dame before," said James. "But I'm going up for the Michigan game to take my official."
James knows the Irish have what he's looking for.
"The honors, academics and tradition of Notre Dame sold me," said James.
The Cinco Ranch standout feels he'll get an early chance ro make an impression.
"I feel physically like I can come in and play early," said James.
