Zach Miller is a hot prospect. "I have offers from all the schools in the Pac 10, said Miller. "Miami, Tennessee, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Florida are some of the other top schools."
Miller recently ran a 4.61 40 time and had some impressive junior stats. He caught 27 passes for 540 yards and 6 touchdowns. He also recorded 103 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 11 sacks.
The Irish have offered Miller as a defensive end. "I talked to Coach Baer and he said he was recruiting me as a defensive end. He said he really liked the way I played and wanted me as a speed rusher from the end position. I just started playing defense last year and I really enjoyed it. I like Notre Dame. They're in my top five. I like their tradition and they have good academics."
Miller has been a tight end and the word is that he would prefer to play tight end in college. I asked Miller if this were true. "Tight end has been my preference because that is all I had played until last year. I discovered I really like playing defense so I'm think about playing defense in college. I don't know, I like playing both."
Coaching will be the biggest factor for Miller when making a decision. "The coaching staff will be important. The position coach will probably be very important and how many he sends to the NFL. Academics will also be important to me and then I guess playing time."
Miller has a top five right now but is still considering other schools. "Id say Miami, ASU (Arizona State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Tennessee. I'm still considering everyone."
Miami has been rumored to be the team to beat. "I would say that but it goes in cycles. One day it's one team and another day it's another. Who knows who will be the final team."
Miller won't be making an early decision. "I will probably take some visits. I'm not sure if I will take all five but I will take a few. I want to visit a few schools and see how I like things at each place."
Comments. Miller seemed interested. I was suprised he was open to playing defensive end. Miami is clearly the leader for him and he seems to like how Miami uses their tight end. The Irish will have to convince him that he should play defense if they want him. He does seem intrigued by Notre Dame however. This could be an interesting race.
