Five Answers: Navy

The debut of a new quarterback and the effects playing in a different country were included among Berk"s five questions asked prior to Notre Dame's season-opener vs. Navy. The answers to both and more are discussed inside...

1 -- Is redshirt-freshman Everett Golson ready to run Brian Kelly's offense? Golson didn't disappoint during his first career game on Saturday, passing for 144 yards and one touchdown while hitting on 66% of his throws. Many expected Golson to run the football, however, he only posted one rushing attempt on the day losing eight yards.

2 -- Will Kelly continue his streak of winning games with a first-time starter at quarterback?

Yes! Kelly posted another win with a first-time starter at quarterback and did so in impressive fashion over the Midshipmen.

3 -- Will a 9 a.m. est. (2 p.m. Dublin time) kickoff play a factor in how the Irish perform in the season opener? No! The Irish wasted little time flexing their muscle, scoring 13 points in the first quarter and raced to a 27-3 halftime lead.

4 -- What impact will the suspension of 1,000-yard rusher Cierre Wood have on the offense? None! The Irish received solid rushing performances from Theo Riddick (107 yards, 2 TDs) and George Atkinson (99 yards, 2 TDs) on the day. The Irish also picked up another 59 yards from Cam McDaniel as the Irish used a power rushing attack in the win.

5 -- Can the Irish defense keep the Midshipmen triple-option offense in check?

Yes! The Irish only gave up one touchdown and a field goal on the day. However, there has to be some concerns about the Irish pass defense as it allowed 192 yards through the air against a team known for its rushing attack. Top Stories
