Andrew Schantz is a player with his stock on the rise. the 6'0, 220lb linebacker has been hearing from a lot of schools lately. "Since it's a dead period, I haven't heard from many coaches lately" said Schantz. "Before that, I was hearing from USC, UCLA, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington" he continued. "I've pretty much heard from the whole Pac 10. San Diego State, and Florida State have been calling too."
Back in April, Schantz told IrishEyes that the Notre Dame coaches did not contact him. Has that changed? "Yes, I get letters from Notre Dame now. A Notre Dame coach came to watch me at football practice last week. He talked to my coach for a while, then he and I talked after practice. He was a real cool guy. We talked about football for a while, then we went over my transcript" said Schantz. "He said Notre Dame will be recruiting me."
Once again Schantz said he's plans to take his time with recruiting. "Right now I'm just focused on practice. We are almost down with summer practice then we get a couple of weeks off before we start practicing for the season. I'm looking forward to being able to relax a little" said Schantz. "After the dead period, I'll see what schools are going to offer, then I'll set up my visits."
Comments: It appears Notre Dame is interested in Schantz. From the way he talks about Notre Dame, he is really interested in being recruited by the Irish. Schantz is a fun kid to talk to. He's always real upbeat, and nonchalant. He sounds like he doesn't have a care in the world, but always happy to hear from me. Notre Dame is in on some great Linebackers this season which is great since Linebacker is a big need this recruiting season. If the Irish offer Schantz, expect him to visit South Bend. Since he gained his fame at the Nike Camp, I think many teams are waiting to see how he performs on the field this season. He's really confident that he'll he and his team will do great this season. He told me to call back when the season starts so we can talk about his games. I'll do just that! By the way, he told me to tell everyone on the site he said "Hi!" Great kid!
