Irish In Contact With West

One of the top 2014 prospects to emerge this past summer was Lima (Ohio) safety Darius West. Notre Dame is showing early interest and West had a chance to see the Irish in action. IrishEyes.com has the latest.

To say Lima (Ohio) Central Catholic safety prospect Darius West was impressed when he saw the Irish in action against Michigan State may be an understatement.

"I saw Notre Dame when they played at Michigan State," said West. "Their defense was fast and really sharp in everything they do. You can see the players are really smart and love to play hard and physical."

While West has not been able to visit campus up to this point, he's been in contact with the Irish.

"I'm talking with (assistant) coach Mike Elston," said West. "I also receive a lot of mail from Notre Dame. The coaches tell me to stay focused on my school work and how they are going to be watching me real hard. They also tell me they would love for me to come to their school and play for them."

For West the early part of the college football season has seen him take in several games.

"Besides the Michigan State visit I've visited Ohio State, Louisville and Cincinnati," said West. "I hope to visit Notre Dame this season but not sure if I'll have a chance."

While projected as a safety in college, West is helping his team playing a different role this season.

"We're 6-0 as of right now," said West. "Last week we were down 13-points but came back to take a one point lead. I then had a pick six that I returned to the house putting us up 28-20 sealing the win. Right now I don't have that many tackles as I'm playing corner, but I've got three picks and have also been playing receiver."
