Highly touted RB gets Irish offer
The latest playmaker to receive a Notre Dame offer is sophomore running back Damien Harris of Barea (Ky.) Madison Southern. "This was an out-of-the blue offer today [Tuesday]," Jon Clark, head football coach at Madison Southern, said. "He was pretty surprised by it. Coach [Tony] Alford called me today and told me, and then I told Damien." Clark said even though the offer was unexpected, Harris had previously expressed interest in the Irish. "A while back when we sat down to make a list of schools he wanted to consider, Notre Dame was definitely on that list. He really liked it," Clark said. Right now, two schools are standing out above the rest to the 5-foot-11, 198-pound running back. "I would say Michigan and Ohio State are pretty close right now," his head coach said. "Michigan offered in the summer and Ohio State offered this season, so he's had a chance to visit both places quite a few times. He's comfortable at both places." During the school year, Harris has quite a lot on his plate as a three sport athlete. "He just finished basketball season, and he's getting ready for track and then spring football practices," Clark said. "He's doing a lot, so he's in no hurry to make a decision. He wants to take a look at South Carolina and Florida, and now, I imagine he'll visit Notre Dame. I think he'll make it up there." As his coach, Clark called Harris a very "unique" player. "Damien has a very rare combination of size and speed," Clark said. "He has the power to run inside, but he also has that extra gear that allows him to break away. He's running a 4.35 (sec.) 40." Harris has over 10 offers, and his offer list includes Florida, Louisville, Michigan, Ohio State, South Carolina and Tennessee.
