Wenzel Readying for Notre Dame Trip

FREDERICK, Md. -- Our Lady of Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) offensive lineman Richie Wenzel competed in the Next Level Nation Five-star combine, but before doing so he spoke with FOXSportsNEXT about his recruitment.

Our Lady of Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) offensive lineman Richie Wenzel is readying to embark on the recruiting process, and one of the schools he cannot wait to see is Notre Dame.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound Wenzel will be on campus March 23, and it excited to meet the coaches and get a look at the school.

"A lot of my family goes there," Wenzel said. "My parents are from there. They've been my favorite team since I was little."

Wenzel's lone offer is from Toledo, and he knows the Irish are a long shot to offer during this visit. However, he communicates regularly with the Notre Dame staff and is looking forward to furthering the relationship.

He also hopes to find out more about Notre Dame's camp schedule as well as what areas of his game need to improve the most.

"More explosion, coaches say that," Wenzel said. "They want me to go to camps. A lot of them say to come out to the camps. There are also a lot of schools that send random mail."

Wenzel, who transferred to Good Counsel from Landon High (Bethesda, Md.) after his sophomore season, is also hearing from Boston College, North Carolina State, North Carolina and Duke.

"I'm supposed to visit Notre Dame, and I'd like to visit North Carolina and Duke and maybe even Florida State," Wenzel said. "I like North Carolina. They're a good school, as is Duke. UNC just called me and said they were really interested, and coach McFadden said they were interested."

As for his Toledo offer, Wenzel is excited to learn more about the school.

"They friended me on Facebook, but I was out of town," he said. "A week later, one of my coaches texted me that I had an offer. It was pretty cool."
