Bunting "loved it" at Notre Dame
Tight end Ian Bunting of Hinsdale (Ill.) Central visited Notre Dame this weekend, and he had great things to say about his experience. "The Notre Dame visit was really good," Bunting said. "I loved it. It's a beautiful place and it has a lot of history, which is so cool." "I spent Friday night and got to hang out with (early enrollee freshmen) James Onwualu and Mike Heuerman," Bunting said. "I got to talk with the coaches for a very long time and I saw a great practice. They all looked loose but they got after it." Bunting said Notre Dame's main message to him was how much he's wanted as a member of the Irish. "I talked a lot with [tight ends coach] (Scott) Booker and [offensive coordinator] (Chuck) Martin," Bunting said. "I also sat down and talked with [head coach] (Brian) Kelly. Their main message to me was that they really want me and they're very interested, and they're hoping that I come up with a decision in the near future. They said they'd love to coach me and love to have me on the team." Bunting says Notre Dame has the aspects he's looking for in a school and football program. "For me, it's really going to be about good academics and a good athletic program," Bunting said. "Like [wide receivers coach] (Dennis) Springer says at Northwestern, you need something to fall back on after football, and it's your degree. But, I also want somewhere with really good football and good coaches." "I want to major in business, and Notre Dame provides a great opportunity for that because their business program is ranked No. 1 in the country," Bunting said. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound tight end says a decision will come sooner than later. "After next weekend's visits, I'll narrow things down with my parents," Bunting said. "At the very latest, I will make a decision before senior year, but if I feel ready I'll decide before then, and that's where I think am right now." "My mom was going to Los Angeles for a business trip, and she asked if I wanted to go with her two days before USC offered, so the timing worked out," Bunting said. "I'll see USC on Friday, and I'll visit Michigan on Saturday and Sunday." Bunting is a three-star prospect and the No. 17 ranked tight end in 2014.
