Williams planning to narrow list
Weak-side defensive end Andrew Williams of McDonough (Ga.) Eagles Landing Christian Academy has been a priority for the Notre Dame staff since the Irish first started scouting the 2014 class. "I have a great relationship with Notre Dame and their coaches," Williams said. "Notre Dame has wanted me to come there since the very beginning." Now in the evaluation period, recruiting is starting to pick up steam for many top prospects. "Recruiting is starting to get crazy," Williams said. "I spoke to [head coach] (Brian) Kelly yesterday, and we had a great conversation. He can't wait for me to visit Notre Dame with my parents this summer. We have the date planned, but I'm not sure of it yet. He was also joking around asking me when I was going to pull the trigger." "I have been to Notre Dame twice already, and I feel comfortable with the ties I have there," Williams said. "I just really like the coaching staff in general." Williams says he plans to commit during the summer after additional visits. Recently, Williams said he's been hearing frequently from some new schools that have jumped in the mix. "It's hard to say who is recruiting me the hardest right now," Williams said. "I've been hearing a lot from LSU, Georgia, Oregon, Clemson, and Tennessee lately. I will visit those schools this summer and probably Ohio State." In May, the 6-foot-4, 240- pound Williams plans to trim his list of over 20 offers to 10 schools that he will focus on going forward. Who has a good shot at making the first cut? "Notre Dame will make it, and Clemson, and the schools that I have a really good relationship with their coaching staff," Williams said. "Some newer schools that are recruiting me, like Georgia and LSU, too." When Williams does decide on a school, Williams named two primary factors that will play into his decision. "The coaches will be a main factor," Williams said. "Also, somewhere I can see myself going to school even if I wasn't playing football." Last season, Williams had 60 tackles, 18 sacks, and 10 tackles for loss.
