Irish Keeping Tabs on Dawkins

Notre Dame recently checked in on Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.) quarterback Brandon Dawkins.

Notre Dame was early to offer Oaks Christian High (Westlake Village, Calif.) quarterback Brandon Dawkins, and the Irish are back in contact with him after deciding it wants to take a quarterback in the 2014 class.

Dawkins holds a bundle of offers and is trying to decide by the end of the summer, and Oaks Christian Jeff Woodruff said the Irish are interested.

"I know that Notre Dame has been out to see him practice and been in the school," Woodruff said. "I know that he's getting a lot more attention by the day and everyone that comes to watch him throw, walks away saying he's the best they've seen so far."

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Dawkins has thrown for dozens of schools this spring, including the Irish.

"Two or three coaches came to see him throw from Notre Dame," Woodruff said. "Some schools have been here twice already. I can't keep everybody straight."

Dawkins holds the long-standing offer from the Irish, and recently picked ones up from North Carolina State and Utah.

"I think (schools) are surprised he is over 6-3," Woodruff said. "He ran a 4.6 at a Nike combine, so people are shocked he can move that well. When they get there and see him throw …I had (former NFL quarterback) Hugh Millen come out and he threw the ball with him for about a half hour, and he came over and said, ‘Coach, I never threw the ball that well in the NFL.'

"When you watch a guy on film that's one thing. When you see him throw live, I think it's a whole different place."

It is uncertain whether Dawkins will make a summer visit to Notre Dame, but it is on his mind.

"He wants to make up his mind and commit before our season starts," Woodruff said. "So it doesn't leave a whole lot of time." Top Stories
