Tillery goes Irish

2015 offensive tackle Jerry Tillery of Shreveport (La.) Evangel Christian Academy committed to Notre Dame on Saturday.

Notre Dame gained their 1st commitment in the 2015 class when offensive tackle Jerry Tillery of Shreveport (La.) Evangel Christian committed to Notre Dame.

Tillery pledged to the Irish on Saturday evening after he and his family spent time with the Notre Dame coaching staff after camp.

The 6-foot-6, 315-pound rising junior chose Notre Dame over offers from Arkansas, Mississippi, Oregon State, San Diego State, Stanford and Texas A&M.

It doesn't come as big surprise that Tillery chose to commit to Notre Dame, and IrishEyes.com had the offensive tackle on commit watch all weekend.

"It's a little unbelievable," Tillery first said when he was offered by Notre Dame earlier this month. "Notre Dame has a terrific academic reputation. They also have a great football reputation, and that combination is hard to beat. They've been a dream school."

Tillery will compete for the left tackle job at Notre Dame, and he's on track to graduate in December 2014 and enroll early.
