Swenson hoping for Irish offer

2016 offensive tackle Erik Swenson of Downers Grove (Ill.) Downers Grove South talks about camping at Notre Dame, if he's close to picking up an Irish offer, and what schools he's favoring early in his recruitment.

Only a rising sophomore, but offensive tackle Erik Swenson of Downers Grove (Ill.) Downers Grove South has offers from the likes of Illinois, Michigan, Northwestern and Ohio State. Swenson camped at Notre Dame last weekend in hopes of picking up an offer from the Irish.

"I was able to talk a little bit with the coaches, but they were really busy," Swenson said. "I said 'hey' to [offensive coordinator] Coach (Chuck) Martin, but then he drove away on a golf cart to go talk with some of the older guys. I talked with [offensive line] Coach (Harry) Hiestand the most. He told me I did really well."

"I would be shocked if I was offered any time soon," Swenson added. "There was no talk of them offering. Hopefully, it will happen this season."

So far this summer, Swenson has camped at Illinois, Northwestern, Michigan and Notre Dame. The Irish are the only school that has yet to offer from that group.

Swenson grew up a Michigan fan, but Notre Dame is certainly a school that has potential to steer him away from the Wolverines.

"Notre Dame is the only school so far that hasn't offered that I would still consider," Swenson said. "I love the business program, small campus, nice people and small town feel that Notre Dame has. I want to play pretty close to home, so it will be either Notre Dame or the Big 10."
