Notre Dame still in it for Mama?
After an impressive showing at The Opening, one that earned him the No. 1 offensive guard ranking for the 2014 class by Scout.com, offensive lineman Damien Mama of Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco is gearing up for a senior season that will be heavy on recruiting. "I will come out probably with a top 10 before the season starts," Mama said. "I'm still undecided right now. I'll take my official visits to that aren't on the West coast, so I can visit a lot more schools on my list." Mama already has one official visit nailed down, and that's to Alabama. He'll be visiting the Tide with fellow Irish target safety Juju Smith. "Juju and I are pretty good friends," Mama said. "We joke around some about attending the same school for college." Mama admits he has been inconsistent in naming the Irish among his long list of top schools, sometimes including Notre Dame in interviews and sometimes not. He spoke about why that was. "I will look at what a school can offer me outside of football, and the resources they offer to help me succeed on and off the field," Mama said. "I am also looking for a great education. Notre Dame absolutely has all of that. I'm from California, I'm just not sure I could see myself spending five years in South Bend. I will have to see if I want to visit Notre Dame in the fall, I'm just not sure yet." "The Irish have a lot of spots filled on their offensive line right now," Mama added. "But, I can't really look at depth chart when I make my decision. A lot of schools have stacked offensive lines. That won't affect me too much." Though he's not ready to put out his top 10 just yet, Mama named the schools that are recruiting him the hardest. "It's USC, UCLA, Washington, California, Ole Miss, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State and Notre Dame [recruiting me the hardest]," Mama said. Mama is a four-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 1 offensive guard in the class of 2014. Mama said the Irish are recruiting him both for guard and tackle.
