Okun hearing from the Irish

Irish assistants Mike Denbrock and Scott Booker stopped by to see 2015 offensive guard Zach Okun of Newbury Park (Calif.) High in the spring, and Okun talks about where his interest level is in Notre Dame.

Notre Dame has expressed interest in 2015 offensive lineman Zach Okun of Newbury Park (Calif.) High, and the 6-foot-4, 314-pound lineman says the interest is mutual.

"[Notre Dame assistants] Coach Denbrock and Coach Booker stopped by my school in the spring and talked with me for a while," Okun said. "They wanted me to come to camp this summer, but I wasn't able to make it. They said there was something about my game that they really liked."

Okun said he hopes to visit Notre Dame in the future, especially if he continues developing his relationship with the Irish.

"I would love to check out Notre Dame," Okun said. "The tradition they have is incredible, and it's a really good school all-around."

Okun isn't a heavy lean anywhere right now, but UCLA is a school that's certainly high on his list.

"I'm very open right now," Okun said. "There was some speculation that I was favoring UCLA, and I won't deny that, but that was more in the past. They are a school that I really like though."

"I'm looking for an athletic and academic mix," Okun said. "I want a school that is sound in both. I'll adjust to campus lifestyle wherever I go, and everything will fall in to place after that. Tradition of winning is also going to be a factor."

Okun's most recent offer comes from California, where he's headed to visit on Friday. The only camp he attended this summer was USC.

"I would like to visit a lot of schools this fall," Okun said. "I'm visiting Cal tomorrow, but I'm not sure of any after that. I visited USC this summer, and that went well. I'm hoping they are going to offer."

With a strong junior season, Okun is on track to add multiple new offers this fall.

"My strength is the run block," Okun said. "I'm 6-foot-4 and have long arms and short legs. I'm also very aggressive, and I'm getting better at pass blocking. Hopefully, this season I'll get noticed some more, and more programs will come knocking."
