Davie Does It Differently

Bob Davie does things differently with his freshmen. He doesn't test their strength or their speed in the 40. His philosophy is to make them comfortable their first two days on campus; and in this he has succeeded. One thing he does do, however, is get official heights and weights. Here they are, and there are some contrasts to what we were all told when these freshmen were recruited.

FROM THE  DEPARTMENT OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES

By The IrishEyes.Com NewsService

NOTRE DAME, Ind. (IE) – Bob Davie goes about things a little bit differently with the arrival of his new freshmen.

Some coaches put them through strength, agility and 40-time tests. Davie doesn't. He says he just doesn't see the point of it.

Asked Tuesday by IrishEyes what he may have seen on film of the first day of practice by the freshmen, Davie said he doesn't even watch it, except for the film on special teams drills.

"We don't even look at the tape, to be honest," Davie said. "The only team tapes we look at are our special teams tapes. It's just so early."

The emphasis for Davie, as we reported earlier, is to make the freshmen feel comfortable. Judging by their enthusiasm, energy and louder and louder shouts, we'd have to say his theory works.

What he does do, however, is to weigh and measure the freshmen on the first night of their arrival.

Here, then are the heights and weights taken by the Notre Dame staff, compared with the unofficial heights and weights of the freshmen which were publicized on signing date by Notre Dame.

The information is given in this order: Name, position, Official Height, Official Weight; Previous Height, Previous Weight. There's some interesting info here.
