Hendrix takes in Notre Dame vs. Arizona State

Four-star safety Payton Hendrix of Dallas (Texas) Bishop Dunne talks about his experience at Cowboys Stadium on Saturday night, his first time seeing the Irish play in person.

One of Notre Dame's most important prospects that was on hand Saturday night for its game against Arizona State was safety Payton Hendrix of Dallas (Texas) Bishop Dunne.

"I went with my dad," Hendrix said. "We didn't get to the game very early, so we went straight to our seats. The atmosphere was awesome. I didn't expect that many [Notre Dame] fans to be there since it was in Dallas, but there were a lot of them."

Hendrix is part of a duo at Bishop Dunne that Notre Dame is recruiting in the 2014 class. Cornerback Nick Watkins was also in attendance last night. "I thought the defense played a great game," Hendrix said. "They made some tough plays when the team needed it most and they were fun to watch. I can see [Nick] and I doing that in the future."

Though Hendrix didn't get a chance to speak with the staff (no prospects did) on Saturday night, he did get to speak with head coach Brian Kelly on Friday night, when Kelly watched Bishop Dunne play Prestwood Christian.

"It was an honor that Coach Kelly came to my game," Hendrix said. "We lost 27-21, but I played a pretty good game."

Hendrix will soon see Notre Dame play for a second time when he travels to South Bend in two weeks for an official visit.

"That's the only visit I have planned this season," Hendrix said. "I'm not sure when I'll take any others."

Hendrix is a four-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 22 safety in the class of 2014.
