Five-star defensive tackle has Irish in top 4

Five-star defensive tackle Daylon Mack of Gladewater (Texas) High talks about why Notre Dame made the cut for his top four and what it was like to attend the Notre Dame vs. Arizona State game on Saturday night in Cowboys Stadium.

The No. 2 ranked defensive tackle in the class of 2015 by, Daylon Mack of Gladewater, Texas, was invited a few weeks ago to attend Notre Dame's game against Arizona State in Cowboys Stadium. However, Mack didn't officially decide to attend until Thursday, when the Irish offered Mack a scholarship.

"I hadn't really talked to the coaches much before they offered," Mack said. "But, I talked with Coach (Kerry) Cooks and we already have a really good relationship. I'm going to give him another calls this afternoon so we can talk about the game last night."

Mack said the atmosphere of Saturday night's game definitely was something that made an impression.

"The game was awesome," Mack said. "I couldn't even walk a few steps without a fan coming up to me and telling me that they wanted me. That was really cool. Their fan base was great."

Mack released his top four on Twitter on Sunday morning. It consists of LSU, Notre Dame, Texas A&M and Oregon.

"Notre Dame made it because of their national tradition and their fan base I saw last night," Mack said. "Texas A&M is in the SEC and in Texas. LSU has a great tradition of defensive linemen and Oregon is just Oregon."

Mack was at Cowboys Stadium earlier this season as a TCU recruit for its game against LSU. He plans to head to LSU on Oct. 26, but had no other definite plans so far.

"I may not get to visit South Bend this season, but I'll definitely make it up there at some point," Mack said. "Location is no issue."

Mack is a five-star recruit and is ranked as the No. 2 defensive tackle in the class of 2015. Top Stories
