Okun pleased with Irish offer
Newbury Park (Calif.) offensive lineman Zach Okun is one of the top offensive linemen in the West in the 2015 class. The 6-foot-4, 315-pound lineman picked up his ninth offer last week when Notre Dame assistant Mike Denbrock stopped by his school. "I was walking to class, and my high school coach told me that Coach Denbrock was at our school," Okun said. "He really likes my tenacity and my three-game highlights from this year and decided to offer me." Okun also has offers from seven Pac-12 schools including Arizona, Arizona State, California, Oregon State, UCLA, Washington and Washington State, as well as Kansas State. He's also receiving interest from Oregon and USC. "It feels great," Okun said. "I have nine offers now, but that Notre Dame offer is big. I still don't have any favorites, I think I'll wait until the off-season to take a few visits and figure out more from there." Okun has visited California and Washington so far this season, and he plans to visit Arizona in November. He said a visit to Notre Dame would likely happen in the spring or next summer. "Notre Dame has great academics, athletics and tradition," Okun said. "They really do have everything you're looking for in a school. They're recruiting me for both guard and center, like most schools." Okun says he has plans to talk with Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly in the near future. "Coach Denbrock said we're going to set up a time soon for me to talk to Coach Kelly and Coach Hiestand on the phone soon," Okun said. "I'm looking forward to that because I know they are great coaches." Okun is looking forward to playing in front of a big time college football crowd in a couple of years. "I'm really going to be considering the game atmosphere and much the fans get into it, support the team and travel," Okun said. "I'll consider the campus and the facilities too. I know Notre Dame is great in all of those aspects." Okun is a four-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 14 offensive guard in the class of 2015.
