Watkins recaps official visit to Notre Dame
Notre Dame hosted top cornerback target, Nick Watkins of Dallas (Texas) Bishop Dunne, this weekend on an official visit. "We had a bye this week, so me and Payton (Hendrix) flew up on Friday," Watkins said. "We watched the team walk-through and hung out with the coaches. It was me, Payton, Erik Brown, Bo Scarborough and Michiah Quick. Then Payton, Michiah and I went to a really nice dinner." Watkins and Quick visited Notre Dame on the same weekend last spring. "I met Michiah last time at Notre Dame, and we've become really good friends," Watkins said. After a full day on Friday, including a steak dinner at Ruth Chris, Watkins geared up for an even more action-packed day on Saturday. "On Saturday, we went to a few meetings and walked around campus and the tailgates," Watkins said. "The game was amazing and the defense really stepped up." Watkins said plenty of fans at the game recognized who he was. "The fans were screaming, 'Watkins! Watkins! We want you!'" Before the game on Saturday, Watkins was able to speak with head coach Brian Kelly and cornerbacks coach Kerry Cooks, who also recruits the state of Texas. "Coach Kelly was mainly telling me how Notre Dame is a place I can go to be successful," Watkins said. "Coach Cooks was saying the same thing. He said he would take care of us. Going to Notre Dame is a life-changing decision that will set you up for the next 40 to 50 years of your life." Although Watkins is growing increasingly comfortable with the Irish, he still plans on taking a few more visits, including to Alabama, UCLA, USC and Oregon. He has yet to schedule any dates for those visits. "I'm looking for a great business school, early playing time, a place where I can fit it and coaches that are just laid back and cool," he said. Watkins is a four-star prospect and is ranked as the No.9 cornerback in the class of 2014.
