Barnett sets return trip to Notre Dame
Junior quarterback Blake Barnett of Corona (Calif.) Santiago picked up an offer from Notre Dame during his visit to campus the weekend of Oct. 18, when the Irish took on USC. Just a month later, Barnett has planned a return trip to Notre Dame. "The main reason I'm headed back to Notre Dame this season is to check it out in November," Barnett said. "I want to see what the weather is like, being from California. Last time, I didn't have a lot of time of campus, so I want to see more of it and I want to check out more of the academic parts." Barnett will be accompanied by both his mom and dad when he visits next weekend for Notre Dame's match-up against BYU. "I really liked the game atmosphere last time," Barnett said. "Of the part of campus that I saw, it was really nice. I have a good relationship with Coach (Mike) Denbrock, too." Barnett now has seven offers, including his most recent one from West Virginia. He's also hearing frequently from Michigan, Missouri and Southern Cal and believes those schools could be close to offering. "I'm starting to hear from a lot of schools," Barnett said. "But, I'm not sure about making an early decision. I haven't decided when I want to commit." The 6-foot-4, 195-pound quarterback will take the red-eye flight to Notre Dame on Friday night. He planned the late flight because Santiago (6-5) is still in the playoffs. After beating Eisenhower in the first rounds last Friday night 35-14, Santiago will take on Upland this Friday night. In Santiago's first round post-season win, Barnett was 18-of-23 for 324 yards for two touchdowns and zero turnovers.
