Linebacker Kolin Hill of Schertz (Texas) Samuel Clemens talks about committing to Notre Dame the day after his official visit to the Irish.
Kolin Hill announced his commitment to Notre Dame a couple hours after IrishEyes.com spoke with him and published this article. Sikes said -- "I talked to my dad about it, and Notre Dame gives me the best opportunity to succeed academically. Notre Dame is one of the best schools in the country."
Hill called Cooks & Elston to inform them of his commitment, and he'll talk with Kelly on Monday morning.
He has an official planned to Texas Tech for Jan. 17, and he said he's still unsure if he'll go or not.
Notre Dame hosted outside linebacker Kolin Hill of Schertz (Texas) Samuel Clemons this weekend. Hill was offered by the Irish in mid-November, and has since reeled in an offer from Texas Tech.
"I had a great time," Hill said. "I really enjoyed myself. Friday, I got there around 10 a.m., and then I checked into the hotel before I saw campus. The campus was beautiful, and it was kind of secluded from everything else. On Friday, I also talked to admissions people."
"On Saturday, we went to position meetings and then watched film from practice the day before," Hill said. "I went to a practice on Saturday, and it's just so much more fast-paced than high school."
On Saturday night, Notre Dame hosted its annual end-of-season team banquet, which Hill and other recruits attended.
"The banquet was a great experience," Hill said. "It was nice to hear the parents talk about how Notre Dame has effected thier kids' lives. That showed me I can definitely see myself fitting in at Notre Dame."
Hill told IrishEyes.com last week that former Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco's departure from Notre Dame would not impact his decision.
"I was able to talk most all of the coaches," Hill said. "Coach Kelly told me that he likes how I can play multiple positions. Notre Dame likes me for outside linebacker right now, but I may end up playing inside. Coach Elliott filled in for Coach Diaco on a lot of conversations with me."
Hill plans to make a final decision -- between Notre Dame and Texas Tech in January.
"I am going to take my official visit to Texas Tech on Jan. 17, and then I will decide after that," Hill said.
Another program in the mix, Texas, has yet to offer, but Hill maintains weekly contact with the Longhorns' staff.
Should Texas extend an offer, would that make them the favorite to land Hill?
"I'm not really sure because I don't want to be anybody's last resort," Hill said. "I want to be someone's first priority. If they are going to offer me, they're saying they have to lose someone first."
