In the eighth of its series for the 2014 recruiting class, Irish four-star tight end commit of Chicago (Ill.) Marist is broken down with a recruitment recap. Weishar is ranked as the No. 13 tight end in the class of 2014, and chose the Irish over offers from the likes of Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.
Nic Weishar (Tight End, 6'5", 235)
Chicago (Illinois) Marist
Rank: No. 13 tight end, Four-star
Nic Weishar picked up an offer from Notre Dame
as just a sophomore. Brian Kelly and staff offered Weishar during the spring's Blue and Gold game. Before Notre Dame had offered, Weishar only had offers from Illinois and Northwestern. But shortly after the Irish pulled the trigger, programs like Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Virginia Tech came calling.
Quarterback wasn't the only position where the Irish were a beneficiary of a domino effect. Irish tight end target Ian Bunting committed to Michigan on April 23, 2013, and that prompted Weishar to commit to Notre Dame just hours later.
"Obviously the tradition that they have had with tight ends was big. I think there is a total of like 7 All-Americans at the tight end position, it is special how they use them and they know how to use them like no on else in college football." – Weishar
