Rank: No. 4 offensive tackle, Four-star
Quick Hit:Quenton Nelson was offered by Notre Dame when he took a visit to campus in April of his junior year. Nelson named a top six later that month of Boston College, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Penn State, Rutgers and Stanford; however, Notre Dame was the team to beat from that point forward. Less than a month later, Nelson committed to Notre Dame. After a midweek conversation with Brian Kelly in late April, Nelson thought things over during the next few minutes, and then called Kelly back to commit. "I know he was getting along well with other kids committed to Notre Dame," Red Bank Catholic head coach Jim Portela said after Nelson committed. "I think for most football players that go to a Catholic school, Notre Dame is a special place and has a mystique about it. He loved it ever since his visit." Nelson is the highest rated offensive recruit Notre Dame has earned a commitment from thus far in the 2014 class. His ranking began outside the top 10, but with strong showings at multiple national events, Nelson moved within the top 5 ranked top offensive tackles in the nation. Nelson was recruited to the Irish by Harry Hiestand. He participated in the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
