Drue Tranquill (Linebacker/Safety 6'2.5", 220)Location: Fort Wayne (Ind.) Carroll
Rank: No. 14 ranked outside linebacker, Four-star
Quick Hit:Drue Tranquill first burst onto the recruiting scene at a combine in Indianapolis during the spring of his junior year. His speed, instincts, athleticism and energy not only gave him the nod as the best player competing that day, but as a prospect worth keeping an eye on. The primary reason for his late arrival to the scene as a major prospect was due to him missing the entire camp circuit the year before because Tranquill also excels as a baseball player. When Tranquill took home MVP honors of the Adidas Invitational in Michigan, teams began to take notice, and he received his first offer from Toledo. After running back-to-back 4.49 forties at Purdue's camp in June, the Boilermakers also extended an offer.
By the end of June 2013, Tranquill had four finalists, which included Michigan (no offer), Notre Dame (no offer), Purdue and Toledo. Throughout the entire process, Tranquill emphasized an early commitment in order to focus on his senior season.Tranquill caught the eye of the Notre Dame coaches during Notre Dame's camp. He thoroughly impressed Bob Diaco and Bob Elliott, but an offer didn't come through. Once it became clear Michigan was not going to offer (full numbers) either, Tranquill pulled the trigger for Purdue in July. However, in early August, Notre Dame decided not to pass on the opportunity to pursue this in-state big skill, and the Irish extended an offer. Tranquill visited Notre Dame in August with his family, and he also visited Notre Dame for the USC game in October. Tranquill decided to put his decision on the backburner until his team was knocked out of the playoffs. In November, Tranquill flipped to Notre Dame after contemplating "the hardest decision of his life." Tranquill has put on 20 pounds since June, and depending on how much more weight he adds, will compete at linebacker or strong safety at Notre Dame.
