"Man, I wish Mack Brown was still the head coach at Texas," Garnett said. "It would make things easier."But, alas, such is not the case, and Garnett is faced with a tough decision. "I've talked with Brian Kelly three times today," Garnett said. "He's talked a lot to my mom, too. And, [defensive line] coach Jerry (Montgomery) at Oklahoma, he's been blowing me up today, too." Oklahoma has been able to both host Garnett's parents on a visit in Norman and send its coach to New Orleans for an in-home visit. Notre Dame has not had the luxury of either. "My parents have been great," Garnett said. "We've talked a lot today. My mom is all Oklahoma. My dad is more about what I think is best for me." "What we talked about is that schools will treat you how they want to treat you once you're on campus," Garnett said. "It's hard to know who to trust. Any school will tell you what you want to hear to get you to come." "Both schools want me, but that's where Oklahoma as the advantage, I really know how much they want me," Garnett explained. "They have been recruiting me longer, and they are in with my family. They know what kind of person I am." "But, Notre Dame has the academics," Garnett continued. "There are a lot of pros of going to Notre Dame." Irisheyes.com provided an update on Sunday night that Garnett was contemplating delaying his signing day decision. Is that still the case? "I couldn't figure out how to do that in time," Garnett said. "I couldn't get the necessary papers in time, so I will announce my decision on signing day." Garnett will announce his decision between Oklahoma and Notre Dame at approximately 12:00 EST.
Garnett nearing final decision
Shortly after three-star defensive tackle Courtney Garnett of New Orleans (La.) St. Augustine decommitted from Texas, Oklahoma became the frontrunner to land the 6-foot-2, 283-pound tackle. However, Notre Dame offered Garnett on Jan. 27, and Garnett took his official to South Bend this past weekend. The Irish certainly have given Garnett plenty to think about with signing day just two days away.
