Fresno defensive tackle receives Irish offer

Four-star defensive tackle Jacob Daniel of Fresno (Calif.) Clovis North, who plans to release his top five before June, talks about his offer from Notre Dame.

In the midst of officially adding 23 new members to the Irish roster on Feb. 5, the Notre Dame staff extended an offer to four-star junior defensive tackle Jacob Daniel of Fresno (Calif.) Clovis North.

"I was in contact with them some in January," Daniel said. "Coach Denbrock has been by my school recently. And, then on Signing Day, I got a message from Coach Elliott that I was being offered a scholarship."

"Notre Dame has such a rich history, and it's a great school," Daniel said. "I'd like to learn more about the school and football program, and just everything that goes along with them, because I don't know too much right now."

Daniel, a former Washington commit, decided to open things back up on Jan. 31, following the Huskies' coaching change.

"I realized that I needed to choose a school for the school itself, and not for the coaches," Daniel said. "I had a change of heart about the process. Academics are going to be a big factor."

Daniel has offers from the likes of California, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA and USC, but he remains open.

"I don't have any favorites right now," Daniel said. "I am just going to continue to get recruited, and then I'll have a serious talk with mom in a couple months. Before summer, I am going to come out with my top five."

Should the Irish not be able to squeeze in an unofficial visit from Daniel this spring, does that mean they are out of the running?

"No, not at all," Daniel said. "I would like to visit Notre Dame at some point, I'm just not sure when."

This spring, Daniel has plans to visit a few schools, though Oregon is currently the only one of the docket for now. He's also hearing frequently from Ole Miss and Texas A&M, two schools that could be close to extending an offer.

Daniel is a four-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 6 defensive tackle in the class of 2015. Top Stories
