2015 prospects: running back

Notre Dame has offered 10 running backs thus far in the 2015 class. Find out where the Irish stand with each prospect, and what Notre Dame's running back board looks like with March just around the corner.

Projected outlook/need at the position (O'Malley): The 2015 depth chart is well-tiered with projected 5th-year senior Amir Carlisle, senior (redshirt-junior) Will Mahone, junior Tarean Folston, and junior (redshirt-sophomore) Greg Bryant. After missing in 2014, the Irish need two running back prospects in the upcoming class, though one -- if he's among the top tier -- would suffice. A second prospect that could help at multiple positions would be ideal.

Notre Dame has offered 10 running backs thus far in the 2015 class.

Josh Adams (6'3", 205) From Warrington, Penn., Adams tore his ACL last October, but through six games, he still rushed for 708 yards and 10 touchdowns. Adams also has offers from the likes of Boston College, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Stanford. No early (public) favorites for Adams, who doesn't plan on taking trips until his rehab is complete. Penn State may have an early edge as the in-state school.

Nicholas Brossette (6'0, 210) From Baton Rouge, La, Brossette committed to LSU last August.

Jordan Cronkrite (6'0", 195) From Miami, Fla., Cronkrite is one the of top running backs in the country. Cronkrite holds offers from the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Miami and Ohio State, but he is not admitting any favorites at this time. He has visited West Virginia once this winter, and he has visited Miami twice.

Damien Harris (5'11", 198) From Barea, Ky., Harris decomitted from Michigan in January. The Wolverines still remain in strong contention to land Harris, as does Ohio State. The Irish could land a visit in the future, as does Harris doesn't plan on committing until signing day.

Sotonye Jamabo (6'3", 210) From Plano, Texas, the three standouts for Jamabo are currently Baylor, Oklahoma and Oregon. Jamabo took in Notre Dame's win against Arizona State last season in Dallas. In 2013, Jamabo rushed for 1,100 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Ray McCloud (5'10", 172) From Tampa, Fla., McCloud says he's hearing the most so far from Clemson, Florida, Kentucky and Vanderbilt. When he spoke about his Notre Dame offer, he was not very familiar with the Irish. We'll see if Notre Dame pushes to land more on his radar. In 2013, he rushed for 2,316 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Kirk Merritt (5'11", 200) From Destrehan, La., Merritt holds offers from the likes of Arizona State, Clemson, Florida and Texas A&M. He's also receiving heavy interest from LSU. Merritt played primarily wide receiver in 2013.

Jacques Patrick (6'1", 220) From Orlando, Fla., Patrick was supposed to visit Notre Dame last year, but due to scheduling purposes, the trip was cancelled. Florida, Florida State and Miami are all recruiting Patrick hard.

T.J. Simmons (5'11", 186)From Lakeland, Fla., Simmons is favoring Clemson, Florida, Notre Dame and Ohio State. Simmons expects to visit the Irish this upcoming season. He finished last season with 10 touchdowns and over 1,000 yards rushing.
