Three-star running back takes in Notre Dame

Running back Kellen Overstreet of Hamilton (Mo.) Penney visited Notre Dame with his parents for junior day on Saturday, March 1. He recaps his visit, including when he expects to be back at Notre Dame.

Three-star running back Kellen Overstreet of Hamilton (Mo.) Penney made the eight and a half hour trek to Notre Dame with his parents in order to take in junior day festivities this weekend.

"It was a really good day," Overstreet said. "It was my first there, and campus was awesome. It's just a great atmosphere and they have a great tradition."

After taking in campus, Overstreet was able to talk with Irish running backs coach Tony Alford.

"Notre Dame is recruiting me for running back," Overstreet said, who also plays defensive back in high school. "Coach Alford talked about his expectations for me. He basically just said how hard he wants me to work, and he wants me to visit again. I plan on coming back to Notre Dame for summer camp."

Overstreet has yet to pick up his first offer, but he's hearing frequently from Boston College, Northern Illinois, Northwestern and Tulsa.

The 5-foot-11, 198-pound running back pointed to his playmaking ability as his primary strength.

"I catch the ball out of the backfield to make plays," Overstreet said. "I use my speed in the open field to make people miss, and I also break tackles."

Overstreet also plans to visit Tulsa this spring. Top Stories
