The Irish open the tournament with a 1:00 p.m. (ET) matchup against Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons defeated Notre Dame in Winston-Salem, 65-58 in late January.
The victor from Wednesday's opening contest moves on to face No. 5 seed Pittsburgh Thursday afternoon. The Panthers defeated the Irish in overtime, 85-81 in South Bend to open March.
Notre Dame concluded its regular season 15-16 and therefore needs two victories this week before its first loss to qualify for NIT consideration. A team must finish its season at .500 to be considered by the NIT selection committee, one that chooses 32 teams following the annual announcement of the 68-team NCAA field.
At 17-17 (or better), it is expected Notre Dame would be extended a bid as a fringe top 100 team per the end season RPI (Ratings Percentage Index).
Irisheyes.com will preview Notre Dame's opening round contest Wednesday morning. The squad departs for Greensboro today and will meet with the media in South Bend at 1:15 p.m. (ET).
