Lane adds Irish offer, schedules visit
On Tuesday and Wednesday, four-star cornerback Jaylon Lane of Nacogdoches (Texas) High doubled his offer list, hauling in eight offers to bring his offer total to 16. One of those offers included Notre Dame. "It's a great offer," Lane said. "It kind of shocked me. It's a really great program. I talked with Coach (Kerry) Cooks yesterday (Tuesday) on Twitter and we set up a time to talk." "Coach Cooks told me that he likes me game a lot," Lane said. "He said that I'm a rare cornerback at 6-foot-1, 185-pounds that gets out of my breaks so well like a small corner. He said Notre Dame plays five cornerbacks on the field at a time and that I would be really good fit in that system. He said they only offer like seven or eight cornerbacks in each class, so I know they want me." Lane has visited Texas so far this spring, and he has plans to see Mississippi State, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M in the near future. He's also already nailed down a date to see Notre Dame. "I'm going up to Notre Dame on June 20," Lane said. "I have a good friend that is going up there then and I'm going to head up there with him and another recruit." Lane said he doesn't have any favorites right now, but he's already high on the Irish. "I don't have any favorites yet, but I'm really liking Notre Dame after they offered," Lane said. "Coach Cooks didn't just spend like 10 minutes on the phone with me like most coaches, we talked for 45 minutes, and he sounded like they really want me and can offer me a lot at Notre Dame." "Notre Dame is a great school," Lane added. "They got to the national championship against Alabama and they put out a really good defense." Lane has plans to commit before the start of his senior year, but he's not going to rush things. "I would like to commit at the end of the summer," Lane said. "But, if I'm not ready, I'll take my five official visits." When searching for a college home, Lane said he and his parents will go down a checklist. "I'll see if I feel comfortable there, what the hospitality is like, what I can get my degree in and if my parents like it," Lane said. Lane's offer list now includes the likes of Boise State, Kentucky, Louisville, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Washington State. Look for the Irish to try to ink two cornerbacks in 2015.
