Kinlaw dismissed from Irish program

Sophomore cornerback Rashad Kinlaw has been dismissed from the football team, Irish head coach Brian Kelly announced Friday morning.

"From my perspective, from a football standpoint, he didn't live up to the rules within our football program that I lay out within our football program," Kelly said.

Kelly said he did not know if Kinlaw was still a student at the University but the Galloway, N.J., native was listed in Notre Dame's directory Friday.

Kinlaw did not appear in any games for the Irish last season and primarily served as the scout team quarterback in the fall. This spring, Kinlaw seemed set to compete for a spot on Notre Dame's two-deep with seniors Jalen Brown and Josh Atkinson.

Coming out of Absegami High School in 2013, Kinlaw was a three-star cornerback who was ranked No. 46 in the nation.

Kelly and the Irish will add two cornerbacks for the 2014 season -- four-star prospect Nick Watkins and fifth-year transfer Cody Riggs, a former 26-game starter for the University of Florida.

Out for the spring session due to off-season shoulder surgery, Kinlaw's classmate Devin Butler will also compete for a spot in the rotation upon his return. Top Stories
