Bilal visits Notre Dame, picks up offer
While on a trip to Notre Dame, four-star linebacker Asmar Bilal picked up an offer from the Irish, extended by Notre Dame defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder. "Coach VanGorder was a pretty cool guy," Bilal said. "He was straight-forward and didn't sugar coat anything. In the meeting room, he told me that he wanted to get back into the college game and there was no place like Notre Dame." Bilal said VanGorder wasn't the one doing all the talking during their one-on-one conversation. "He was asking me about my knowledge of the game and asking me to point out different things when we were watching film," Bilal said. "He was evaluating me, then said he liked me and offered." "After I talked with the defensive coordinator, I spoke with the head coach (Brian Kelly)," Bilal said. "He said the same thing basically as the defenisve coordinator. He gave me a certificate to show that I was being offered." Bilal said the staff didn't go into specifics about outside or inside linebacker, though he believes Notre Dame is recruiting him to play primarily outside. Bilal said he does not havea preference of position. "Once we got there, I sat in a film session and then we went to practice," Bilal said. "Practice was great. The defense was flying around and making plays. It was a great atomosphere." "The whole visit was great," Bilal said. "I really enjoyed talking with the players, like Jaylon Smith. He kept it real. He said school was going to be hard, but the outcome was going to be greater in the end. He said it was the best decision's he's made coming to Notre Dame." Bilal was offered by Michigan on Friday and Nebraska earlier this week. He has no future visits set up, though Iowa, Wisconsin and Northwestern are likely candidates to receive a visit his spring. Bilal, hailing from Indianapolis' Ben Davis, was joined in South Bend with his head coach Mike Kirschner. Bilal is a four-star linebacker and is ranked as the No. 15 outside linebacker in 2015.
