Monday Recruiting Insider

Insider notes and news in recruiting as the spring evaluation period begins on Wednesday. Find out where the staff intends to be this week, as well as the latest on where Notre Dame stands with a few of its top recruits and a list of 12 prospects predicted to end up at Notre Dame.

1. Let's review the target number for the class of 2015.

O'Malley predicts 19.

73 can return (including 15 5th years). Looking at the 5th years, 10 are likely to return.

Taking into account transfers, medicals, the NFL, etc., O'Malley predicts at least three more spots to open up. That puts the number at 19, with 20 also being a viable number as well.

2. The staff will hit the road this week to see a few targets.

The spring evaluation period begins Wednesday. Each program gets 168 evaluation days through May 31, with each staff member counting as a single day. Prospects are allowed to be visited twice.

Cornerback Jaylon Lane, who's visiting this June, will receive a visit from Kerry Cooks on Wednesday. I asked him if there was a chance he could commit, and he responded, "Not sure, I would like to visit there first."

Lane is also strongly considering LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M, but it's my belief that Notre Dame is in the driver's seat.

Offensive line commit Jerry Tillery will also receive a visit.

There are a few other names I'm working to confirm.

3. Last week, I said the next commit would be Chris Clark.

Since then, the four-star tight end and former North Carolina commit visited both Michigan and Ohio State. He has plans to visit Auburn in June and will likely decide sometime before this senior year. I still like Notre Dame's odds here, but it's going to take longer to play out.

If I were to venture a guess on the next commit, I would choose offensive lineman Trevor Ruhland, who visited in March and picked up an offer.

4. An early estimation of prospects that Notre Dame will add:

OL Trevor Ruhland

TE Chris Clark

LB Justin Hilliard

CB Jaylon Lane

DE Jashon Cornell (has not yet released his top 10)

MLB Nick Conner (no offer)

OLB Asmar Bilal

WR Ryan Newsome

WR Miles Boykin (recently picked up a Michigan offer)

CB John Reid

S/CB Justin Tranquill (no offer)
