Ryan has a leader
Four-star small forward Matt Ryan of Rochelle (N.Y.) Ional Prep has been on Notre Dame's radar for quite some time. The Irish offered last July, and Ryan visited Notre Dame in September. On Monday evening, he and his family received a visit from Mike Brey and assistant Martin Ingelsby. "The visit went great," Ryan said. "Coach Brey told me to get ready to have a big impact my freshman year. He set some expectations for me, like being named to the 1st team All-ACC rookie team. "Notre Dame is my best scholarship on the table," Ryan said. "I have a really good relationship with the coaching staff, my family really likes everything they can offer, and academically and athletically it presents a great opportunity. You could definitely say Notre Dame is my leader right now." Ryan visited Duke and North Carolina this spring. "Duke basically told me everything but 'you have a offer,'" Ryan said. "North Carolina is right there, too. Stanford said they're offering once they see my SAT scores. I'm also considering Vanderbilt, Michigan, Virginia and Wisconsin." Ryan, a perimeter shooter and ranked as the No.19 small forward in the nation, had hip surgery in early March to repair a pair of labral tears. "The surgery went really well," Ryan said. "I just started jogging (today), and next week I'll get back to my handles. I won't be able to run for a couple of months, but I'm ahead of schedule right now. I'm not going to rush anything." Ryan believes that a few more scholarship offers could be headed his way once the fall is under way. "A lot of schools want to see how I respond to this injury," Ryan said. "Once I get back into it in September, I could pick up a couple more offers." Ryan has already scheduled an official visit to Notre Dame. "I'll be there Sept. 6 for the Michigan game," Ryan said. "I plan on probably taking a couple of more official visits depending on my offers and then making a decision." Ryan will likely transfer to New Hampton Prep this fall.
