Lampkin excited to add Irish to list

Former Sooners commit four-star defensive tackle Du'Vonta Lampkin of Houston (Texas) Cypress Falls talks about his interest in the Irish after adding an offer.

Two days after four-star defensive tackle Du'Vonta Lampkin decommitted from the Oklahoma Sooners, the Houston, Texas athlete spoke with Irish assistant Kerry Cooks on the phone.

"He (Cooks) told me that I had an offer and that they really liked me," Lampkin said. "Notre Dame is a really good offer for me. I've put in a lot of work on and off the field, so that offer means a lot. It's a big school with a lot of history tied to it and just very well known for its success."

"I don't know a lot about Notre Dame other than some general things, but I do know that they'll be playing five teams in the ACC each year," Lampkin said.

Lampkin says Oklahoma is still under consideration, but he wants to explore all of his options.

"My family and I talked it over and we just felt that I owed it to myself to visit some more places," Lampkin said. "I haven't visited anywhere other than Oklahoma this spring, but I hope to get out and see some places this summer. I'm going to take official visits, too."

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound defensive tackle also has offers from Michigan, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas and Texas Tech.

"Coaches, environment, and how the team interacts with each other will be important," Lampkin said.

Lampkin doesn't plan on announcing a list of favorites any time in the near future.

"No favorites," Lampkin said. "I'm open. A lot of people think I may be favoring Texas now, but that's not true. It doesn't matter what school I choose as long as I like the coaches and they offer my major."

Lampkin plans to major in business in college.

He is a four-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 20 defensive tackle in the class of 2015. expects the Irish to take two defensive tackles in this class. Top Stories
