Jones eager to take in Notre Dame

Three-star athlete Elijah Jones of Upland (Calif.) High explains why he's looking forward to visiting Notre Dame in June and what a Notre Dame offer would mean to him. Also, find out what position Notre Dame is recruiting him to play.

Notre Dame will host three-star athlete Elijah Jones of Upland (Calif.) High in June for its invite-only camp, Irish Invasion.

And, Jones couldn't be more excited about the opportunity to showcase his ability in front of the Irish staff.

"It's hard to put into words," Jones said. "I mean, it's Notre Dame, you know? They're up there with USC and Alabama as the best in the country."

Notre Dame is recruiting Jones to play cornerback.

"Schools are recruiting me to play either cornerback or nickel," Jones said. "Right now for Upland, I'm playing corner, safety and running back."

"Coach (Bob) Elliott came by my school a couple of weeks ago, and he's coming by again next week," Jones said. "He talked about camp and how I need to do well to earn an offer. He likes how I'm aggressive and how I come downhill to make the tackles."

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound cornerback has offers from Dartmouth, Hawaii, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State and Yale.

"I like Dartmouth and Yale the best right now," Jones said. "This summer, I'm visiting them after I visit Notre Dame. I'm also visiting UCLA."

Jones plans to commit before his senior season.

"I would like to make a decision this summer, but if I have to, I'll wait it out," Jones said.

Jones had 60 tackles, 13 pass break-ups, one interception and one sack as a junior.

"I think I have a high football IQ," Jones said. "I'm athletic, have good instincts and am good in man coverage." Top Stories
