Irish make Boykin's first cut

Wide receiver Miles Boykin talks about the process of cutting his list to 10, and how he plans to reach a final decision in August.

Four-star wide receiver Miles Boykin of New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic cut his list to 10 on Monday.

The teams making the cut: Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon and Virginia Tech.

"It wasn't easy," Boykin said. "All of the teams recruiting me seemed very genuine, and they all had something different that was good to offer. I focused on my relationship with the coaching staff and the value of their education."

Boykin has visited Notre Dame twice this year already, and he will make his way to campus for a third time on June 14.

"I felt very comfortable at Notre Dame the first two times I went," Boykin said. "It's just a great school and atmosphere, and Coach (Mike) Denbrock have started to get close. This time, I went to get to know the players and students better."

"I will probably stay with [2014 tight end signee] Nic Weishar," Boykin said. "I have known him since the 4th grade."

Boykin also visited Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin this spring. He travels to Michigan again this upcoming weekend, Missouri on June 13, Florida on June 20, and he has plans to see Indiana, Oregon and Virginia Tech as well in June.

Following his round of visits comes another cut.

"I will cut my list to five in July, and I will commit in August," Boykin said. "At that point, it will be where I feel most comfortable."

This offseason, the 6-foot-4, 215-pound wide receiver said he has been focusing most on fine-tuning his routes.

"I'm just working on making them really precise," Boykin said. "I know I'm good at going up and getting the ball out of the air, so I'm working on all parts of my game."

Boykin is a four-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 25 wide receiver in the class of 2015. Top Stories
