"I missed his call a few days ago," Newsome said. "But, he left a long voicemail saying how much I could mean to their program, what a degree from Notre Dame could do for me, and that they are really going to do their best to recruit me."
Newsome planned on visiting Notre Dame this summer for Irish Invasion, but he may have to delay that visit until the fall.
"I am visiting the west coast next week," Newsome said. "UCLA, USC and Oregon, and that's a lot of travel for my parents. If it were just up to me, I would be at Notre Dame (visiting) right now. So, hopefully, I can catch a ride with (Irish wide receiver commit) Jalen Guyton."
"If I can't make it to Notre Dame this summer, I was thinking I will take an official visit there and if all goes well, I'll take another unofficial there."Guyton says he's continuing to build his relationships with the Irish staff. "I talk with Coach (Kerry) Cooks and Coach (Mike) Denbrock a lot," Cooks said. "I have a great relationship with them." "My dad and I created the 'pie' factor," Newsome said, laughing. "All the pieces of the pie have to go together, because you don't want a pie that's sweet and sour. You just want a pie that's sweet. So, I want to see how I fit into the environment at the school and the city. You know, Notre Dame would be an adjustment for me because of the weather, but if it's the place for me, then that wouldn't matter. I want to see if Notre Dame has a plan for me. I know you have to compete, but early playing time is something I'm looking at." Newsome is also visiting Alabama and potentially Tennessee in July. Another school Newsome could see himself visiting this summer is Texas Tech. "I'm not going to visit Texas this summer, but I may visit Texas Tech," Newsome said. "I wouldn't even know what I would see at Texas if I visited again because I've been so much. I've been to Tech, too, but I haven't really gotten a chance to see campus." Newsome says two schools have recently dropped off his radar. "I'm not considering Baylor or Florida State anymore," Newsome said. "Baylor is still recruiting me, but they are full at wide receiver for this class. And, I didn't like Florida State's approach with me. It was like I should want to go there just because they won the national championship. It was all based on the name, and I didn't really like that." After Newsome makes his round of visits this summer, he's looking to cut his list. "I will probably come out with a top seven after I see some schools, and then I will have a top five and take official visits," Newsome said. "I want to announce at the Under Armour All-America Game."
The four-star wide out is a 5-foot-9, 175-pound prospect with speed to burn, having been clocked in the 40-yard dash at 4.41 seconds."I'm fast, but I'm still learning the game," Newsome said. "I'm trying to really improve my routes and the technical side of my game right now."
