Crawford pulls the trigger for Notre Dame
A long-awaited day is here for Notre Dame fans. Four-star cornerback Shaun Crawford of Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward has committed to Notre Dame. On Sunday, Crawford tweeted, "Making my Dad PROUD on Father's Day. I officially committed to the University of Notre Dame. The road to success.." Crawford first jumped on Notre Dame's radar last summer when he visited campus. However, likely due to his lack of size, a point of emphasis for former Irish defensive coordinator Bob Diaco, Crawford never added a Notre Dame offer. Subsequently, Crawford committed to Michigan last August. However, Notre Dame continued to stay in touch with Crawford, and once Brian VanGorder took the reins as defensive coordinator, contact between the two parties amplified. Crawford visited Notre Dame in May, and the Irish were considered favorites to land the four-star after that visit. When Crawford cancelled a trip to Ohio State not long after, it was regarded as only a matter of time before Crawford pledged Irish. Irish defensive backs coach Kerry Cooks earns much of the credit for reeling in Crawford. Cooks continues to rise the national ranks in regards to his status as a recruiter. Crawford is Notre Dame's 13th commitment so far in the class of 2015. Notre Dame now has two cornerback commits, and is likely done recruiting the position. The Irish earned its first cornerback commit earlier this week when Nick Coleman of Kettering (Ohio) Archbishop Alter earlier pledged. Notre Dame has now garnered five commitments in a span of one week. Crawford is a four-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 9 cornerback in the class of 2015 and No. 68 prospect overall.
