Mahone Arrested

Irish wide receiver Will Mahone's future at Notre Dame is in doubt after the junior was arrested near his home town of Austintown, Ohio, Sunday.

Mahone was arrested on multiple counts including disorderly conduct, assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, intimidation of a public servant and vandalism, according to Mahoning County Sheriff Department documents.

A former four-star running back prospect per Scout.com, Mahone was withheld from action as a freshman running back in 2012 and lost the bulk of his sophomore year of 2013 injury, first a high ankle sprain in August camp, later a broken (left) foot.

Moved to wide receiver (slot) prior to spring ball 2014, Mahone broke his (right) foot, an injury that required surgery in early March. Irish head coach Brian Kelly offered last week that Mahone had returned to the active roster for the outset of June's allotted practice sessions.

Notre Dame officials had no comment Sunday night regarding Mahone's status with the football team.

Mahone had logged only special teams work for the Irish to date, appearing at Purdue in mid-September 2013 and against Michigan State thereafter.
