Irish Invasion preview

Inside is an in-depth preview of the visitors expected at one of Notre Dame's biggest recruiting weekends of the year, Irish Invasion, including a breakdown of the headlining 2015 and 2016 visitors expected to be in attendance.

Notre Dame will hold one of its marquee recruiting weekends of the year this Friday and Saturday when it puts on Irish Invasion and welcomes a number of elite prospects to campus.

To sum up the experience, head coach Brian Kelly told the media in May:

"We wanted to have a marquee event in June that separated us from our camps, which are educational, which are historic in a sense that kids come to Notre Dame for that experience," Kelly said. "We didn't feel like we were a step behind (other programs), per se, but we felt like we wanted something that really heightened the national recruiting scope we have. And that's how we kind of marketed it."

Headlining visitors

* Indicates no scholarship offer

- OLB Justin Hilliard (Cincinnati, Ohio) – Will announce his final decision at the end of this month… Contenders are Iowa, Notre Dame and Ohio State…Last time for the Irish to make an impression... Visited two weekends ago with Mom... Visits Ohio State Saturday

- CB Ykili Ross (Riverside, Calif.) – Falls into the category of an elite cornerback/special teams addition that Notre Dame would still add…Goal is to get him back on campus for an official visit… USC and UCLA are the early favorites… Likely not working out

- MLB Te'Von Coney (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) – Visiting Notre Dame for the first time… Irish are in his top ten… Could be a tough pull out of Florida, but this weekend the Irish could make a big jump…One of the marquee visitors to impress on the list

- RB Jacques Patrick (Orlando, Fla.) - Returning to Notre Dame for the second time in two weeks… Said Notre Dame had "more substance than fluff" last time he visited… Florida State and Alabama lead

- RB/LB Josh Adams (Warrington, Pa.) – Notre Dame is one of only a couple stops for Adams this summer, who lays relatively low on the topic of his recruitment… Boston College, Penn State and Stanford are also major players… Plans to announce commitment before the start of his senior season

- DE Austin Bryant (Thomasville, Ga.) – Visiting Notre Dame for the first time after being offered last fall... Clemson and Florida State likely lead with Auburn squarely in the mix as well

- DE Mekhi Brown (Columbus, Ga.) – Alabama commit visiting with a group of teammates… Most recently added an offer from Ohio State… Still solid to the Tide at this point

- QB Malik Henry (Westlake Village, Calif.) – Five-star quarterback and ranked as the No. 1 quarterback in the class of 2016 by… On a Midwest swing that includes Michigan, Michigan State an Ohio State… Notre Dame could establish itself as an early favorite with a strong showing this weekend

- OT Liam Eichenberg (Cleveland, Ohio) – Has the Irish in his top three along with Michigan and Ohio State

- TE Jake Hausmann (Cincinnati, Ohio) – No. 1 ranked tight end in 2016… Will be a tough steal from from the in-state Buckeyes

- QB Jawon Pass (Columbia, Ga.) – Auburn, Notre Dame and Texas A&M in great shape early

- *WR Austin Mack (Fort Wayne, Ind.) – Hard to believe he won't be the consensus No. 1 player in Indiana in 2016… Recently added Michigan and Ohio State offers… Grew up a Notre Dame fan… Same high school as Irish ‘backer Jaylon Smith… Strong possibility he adds an Irish offer this weekend

- *LB Daelin Hayes (Orchard Lake, Mich.) – Visited Notre Dame last week and came close to an offer… An offer could very well come this weekend… Has said Notre Dame would be in his top three should it offer… Michigan and Michigan State also in strong contention

Who could commit

2015: It is not likely that any of the 2015 prospects pull the trigger while on campus this weekend. That obviously doesn't indicate that interest level will not increase for a number of high-profile prospects, but prospects that were expected to pop for Notre Dame in June already have (Micah Dew-Treadway, Brandon Tiassum Elijah Taylor and Nick Coleman).

2016: Similar to the 2015 class, forecasting a commitment in the 2016 class is difficult. Should Desmond Fitzpatrick, Austin Mack, or Daelin Hayes add offers, Notre Dame would jump into their top groups. Similarly, as previously mentioned, Notre Dame is in the top group for Malik Henry, Liam Eichenberg, Jake Hausmann and Jawon Pass.

Who could add an offer

2015: Safety Justin Tranquill and middle linebacker Jahvoni Simmons

2016: Linebacker Daelin Hayes, wide receiver Austin Mack, wide receiver Desmond Fitzpatrick… Would be very surprising if Mack left without an offer… Hayes, too, for that matter

2015 commits expected to be in attendance

OG Tristen Hoge, S Nicco Fertitta, OT Trevor Ruhland, DT Brandon Tiassum, CB Shaun Crawford, DT Micah Dew-Treadway, CB Nick Coleman

Recent cancellations of note: Running back Damien Harris (mom has to work), wide receiver Cordell Broadus (still plans to take an official visit), running back Ty'Son Williams (Notre Dame remains his leader, plans to reschedule), linebacker Porter Gustin (attending All-Poly camp this weekend in Utah; will visit Notre Dame officially in September for the Michigan game), outside linebacker Jerome Baker(still plans to visit this summer), defensive end Auston Robertson (has 7-on-7 nationals, will visit Tuesday instead)
