Houston Notebook (7/16/14)

Scout.com has had lots of activity in the Midlands region. Today, we look at a few recruiting notes from athletes in the Greater Houston area from last week and the early portions of this current week.

Martin Decides to #SicEm 
Just committed to Baylor #RBU

That was the tweet from Port Arthur Memorial running back Kameron Martin (2016) early Tuesday morning via twitter. Martin had more than 20 offers from some of the premier Top 25 programs across the country. 

Humphrey’s 5IVE
After being committed to Baylor earlier this year during the off season, Clear Falls wide receiver John Humphrey decided to open things up last month. On Tuesday, Humphrey told everyone one of his followers that Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Texas, Ole Miss and Baylor are the favorites for the moment.

He also announced that he “will be announcing my school @ the Semper Fi All-American Game.”

Utes for Mouton
North Shore defensive back Darius Mouton, according to a member of the North Shore staff landed an offer from Utah.

Spartans Take State 7-on-7 Title, Eagles for Consulation
It was a long and tough weekend, but two Houston area squads finished at the top of the State 7-on-7 tournament in College Station. Seven Lakes came away with a 42-25 win over Whitehouse in the championship game while Cy Falls defeated College Station in the consolation game 33-27. Seven Lakes coach Lydell Wilson was more than excited for the results from his players, but quickly focused on the bigger mission.

“The kids played well and this is a good builder for the season,” Wilson said. “This win is good, but nothing counts without pads.”

Boys Trip to ‘Bama
Five-star defensive back Kendall Sheffield from Marshall, Lamar four-star cornerback Holton Hill and 2016 Manvel defensive back Deontay Anderson were all in Alabama for the July camp in Tuscaloosa. For Sheffield, his next stop will be to LSU in the coming weeks, Hill will be off to Florida State and end at Texas this weekend. Anderson left and made his way to Mississippi State.

Hill Best at The Opening
Speaking of Hill, the Lamar defensive back was named as the best defender at The Opening in Oregon. All of the players mentioned above were at the elite competition sponsored by Nike.

Texas Takes on the Night
The Texas program will be hosting a camp this Friday night under the lights in Austin. Several of the top Houston area guys will be in attendance. Hill and Humphrey, guys who were previously mentioned are slated to be there. Longhorn commits Tristian Houston from North Shore and Toby Weathersby, offensive lineman from Westfield will be there as well. 

A few other top guys of note who were mentioned to be in attendance are North Shore’s Tyler Moore and Eric Monroe, Cy Falls’ Du'Vonta Lampkin, Manvel’s William Lockett and Nimitz athlete Darrell Stewart. For a full listing of campers, log on to LonghornDigest.com.
