Big Board: Defensive line

Defensive end is a major point of emphasis for Notre Dame to close out this class having addressed all of its needs. Find out where the Irish fare with their top prospects heading into August.

Defensive end, linebacker and running back will be the points of most emphasis for the Irish staff on the recruiting trail going forward.

Notre Dame has three defensive line commitments, a trio of Midwest prospects who project as defensive tackles. I-state Brandon Tiassum, Cincinnati's Elijah Taylor, and Illinois native Micah Dew-Treadway all pledged to Notre Dame in June.

The Irish would like to take an elite pass-rusher in this class and perhaps another edge player, depending on the skill set of who else it reels in at linebacker. They set in good standing with a number of top prospects, including a trio of five-stars.

Rasheem Green (Gardena, Calif. Junipero Serra) - Notre Dame currently makes the cut for Green's top five, and he plans to trim that list to 10 before the start of the season. Arizona State, UCLA and USC are favorites heading into the season.

Keisean Lucier-South (Orange County, Calif., Lutheran) - Lucier-South has planned an official to Notre Dame for Oct. 4. He recently stated that Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA and USC are the teams recruiting him hardest. Notre Dame is certainly in contention here.

Byron Cowart (Seffner, Fla., Armwood) - Currently has Oregon as his leader, and stated Alabama, Clemson, Florida and LSU as other top contenders while at The Opening. However, Notre Dame has already secured an official from Cowart and the Irish have already stared to establish themselves as the dark horse candidate here.

Joseph Wicker (Long Beach, Calif, Poly) - Though USC and UCLA are favorites to keep Wicker in California, Wicker stated that Notre Dame was the team recruiting him hardest. Wicker doesn't plan on committing until Signing Day, so expect the Irish to get a visit at some point.

Neville Gallimore (St. Catharine's, ON, Canada Prep) - Notre Dame is pushing to land an official from Gallimore this season, who is currently high on Michigan State, Ohio State and Oklahoma. It would be surprising if Notre Dame doesn't account for one of his five officials.

Christian Wilkins (Suffield, Conn., Academy) - Wilkins, who lays low about recruiting, visited a number of ACC schools in the spring as well as Stanford and Ohio State. Expect Notre Dame to receive a visit this fall. Top Stories
