'Notre Dame definitely has my high interest'

Five-star quarterback Shea Patterson of Shreveport (La.) Calvary decommitted from Arizona on Monday, and he's scheduled a visit to Notre Dame for the fall. Find out exactly where the Irish stand in his recruitment.

Notre Dame will receive a visit from Scout.com's No. 1 ranked quarterback in the 2016 class this fall. Five-star Shea Patterson of Shreveport (La.) Calvary has scheduled a visit to campus for when Notre Dame takes on Michigan on Sept. 7.

Patterson decommitted from Arizona on Monday.

"It had kind of been on my mind for a while," Patterson said. "When I committed as a freshman, I didn't expect to get so many more offers. Things started to blow up, and I feel like I was holding back and didn't give any new schools a fair chance. Now, I can go visit schools and have fun with it."

Patterson, who grew up in Toledo and has family in both Indiana an Ohio, first picked up an offer from Notre Dame in May.

"The offensive coordinator (Mike Denbrock) came down and watched me throw and liked what he saw," Patterson said. "I don't really talk to any coaches, but my dad keeps in touch with everyone, and I know Notre Dame just had a quarterback decommit in the class ahead of me."

"They're (Notre Dame) kind of wide open right now and I could make a big impact early. Notre Dame is definitely high on my list right now."

The 6-fot-2, 190-pound quarterback camped at Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and Texas this summer.

What schools are standing out to Patterson right now?

"Arizona is still one of my top schools," Patterson said. "I just left LSU and Alabama, and they are up there, too. Notre Dame is the other one."

So far, Patterson's visit to Notre Dame is the lone visit planned for the future.
